Good Morning GPS!
I am communicating to our parents/guardians/staff to inform you that over the course of the end of last week and through the break, several students in the elementary have been confirmed as contracting hand, foot, and mouth disease. GPS has consulted with the Chouteau County Health Department for guidance on the issue. While the name of this illness is concerning, this illness is mostly mild, with symptoms usually lasting 7 to 10 days. Symptoms can include fever, sore throat, blisters inside the mouth, and rashes found on the hands and feet. According to the CDC, it is not considered a reportable communicable disease, and unless a student has a fever or diarrhea, they do not meet exclusionary criteria from school. Students are allowed to return to school after 24 hours of being fever-free. As such, we highly recommend that if you suspect your child is sick, have them stay home for a day or two to monitor their symptoms, especially a fever. If your child develops a fever or you suspect your child has contracted this or any other seasonal illness, please seek medical advice and follow your healthcare provider's recommendations. Students and staff will also be observing an hourly hand-washing routine, and we highly recommend observing strict hygiene practices in your place of work and at home during this week. If your student has seen a doctor and needs to be absent, bring a note following their return for their absence to be excused.
Thank You!

Special Board Meeting

Happy Friday, Everyone!
I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting news about our open positions since the end of the last school year. Believe me, I’ve been right there with you, eager to fill these roles with the best candidates. Our journey to find quality staff started many months ago and extended throughout the summer. While the process was lengthy and involved many candidates and configurations, I’m thrilled to finally share our teacher assignments for the upcoming year.
It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I announce our new teacher assignments.
First, Mrs. Leah Enil will be our new secondary math teacher. Mrs. Enil comes to us from the beautiful Caribbean Island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. When I first spoke with her several months ago, I was immediately impressed by her professionalism, positive attitude, and genuine commitment to lifelong learning. Moving to the United States from abroad is a significant undertaking that requires perseverance, patience, faith, and grit. Throughout this process, Mrs. Enil has exemplified these qualities, and I look forward to her saying “see you soon” come to fruition.
Second, I am delighted to introduce Mr. Nathaniel Parry, who will be teaching 5th and 6th grade. Mr. Parry is a Montana native who has traveled across the state as his father worked in education. He joins us after spending five years with Minneapolis Public Schools, where he worked with middle and high school students, primarily in math. Mr. Parry enjoys the outdoors and was looking for a small, welcoming rural Montana community to call home. He will be moving to Geraldine via Billings soon and looks forward to becoming part of our community.
Third, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Meagan Schmock will be teaching 3rd and 4th Grade, with authorization from the Montana Office of Public Instruction. Mrs. Schmock joined us last year with experience working in schools, primarily as a paraprofessional. During the second half of the year, she transitioned into this role and quickly demonstrated the poise, patience, and persistence needed to work effectively with students. I am excited to see her return to the classroom with her familiar face, commitment to the team, and professional dedication.
Lastly, I am thrilled to announce that Mrs. Shari Williams will be guiding our 1st and 2nd grade class, our largest group, as she completes her teacher preparation program. Over the past several years, Mrs. Williams has shown an incredible commitment to the GPS team and her personal growth. As a parent of one of the students she will teach, I can personally attest to her patient presence and exemplary role-modeling as a learner. I am confident she will continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Mrs. Margee Bronec.
Thank you all for your patience and support during this process. I am confident that our new and returning staff will bring great energy and dedication to our school community. Have a wonderful weekend!
